Reduction in tax burden on essential goods, services, and select sectors is expected to lower the cost of living, boost household consumption, enhance trade competitiveness, and encourage small businesses to enter the formal economy, thereby widening the tax base and supporting GDP growth. The Government cited improvements in high-frequency economic indicators during September–October 2025 as reflecting strengthening momentum after the reforms. GST 2.0 is also aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision by supporting manufacturing, MSMEs, exports, healthcare access, and infrastructure through targeted rate reductions and exemptions. While GST collection data is maintained only at the national level, overall collections have shown year-on-year growth. To ease liquidity stress, provisional refunds of 90% for inverted duty structure cases have been enabled from October 2025. These measures collectively are likely to boost GDP growth by stimulating consumption, encouraging investment, and promoting job creation.
