"), pointer; position: relative; box-shadow: none !important;">"), pointer; position: relative; box-shadow: none !important;">The Ministry of Cooperation has highlighted the positive impact of recent GST rationalisation on cooperatives across dairy, food processing, agriculture, and rural enterprise sectors. GST on milk and paneer is now nil, and rates on butter, ghee, cheese, and milk cans have been reduced to 5%, boosting dairy cooperatives by lowering costs, increasing competitiveness, and raising demand. In the food processing sector, GST on jams, juices, chocolates, biscuits, and similar items has been reduced from 12–18% to 5%, enhancing sales and revenue for cooperatives. Agriculture and rural enterprises benefit from a cut in GST on fertilizers, bio-pesticides, tractors, and related components, reducing input costs and promoting sustainable practices. These measures improve product competitiveness, strengthen cooperative brands, and are expected to increase market share, demand, and surplus distribution to members. The GST rationalisation also encourages informal producers and women-led self-help groups to integrate with cooperatives, expanding market access and boosting income opportunities nationwide.

"), pointer; position: relative; box-shadow: none !important;">"), pointer; position: relative; box-shadow: none !important;">The reduction in GST rates is expected to enhance the competitiveness of cooperative products in the unorganised sector, leading to an increase in the market share of cooperative brands and strengthening consumer trust and food safety. Higher sales and improved margins are likely to enable cooperatives to generate additional surplus, which is expected to be passed on to members through higher procurement prices. For instance, presently about 80% of the consumer prices is passed on to dairy farmers, which is expected to rise to around 85% as a result of the GST rationalisation.

"), pointer; position: relative; box-shadow: none !important;">"), pointer; position: relative; box-shadow: none !important;">Improved price competitiveness is expected to increase demand which is likely to encourage informal producers and women-led self-help groups to link with cooperatives, thereby providing better market access and resulting in improved income opportunities for self-help groups in all the States/UTs.
