India's gross GST collections rose to ₹1.7 trillion in November over lower tax rates

news details
India's collection of gross goods and services (GST) recorded a 0.7% year-on-year (YoY) increase to ₹1.70 trillion in November 2025 due to the lower tax rates in the economy after the central government tax cuts, according to the official release.

India's collection of gross goods and services (GST) recorded a 0.7% year-on-year (YoY) increase to 1.70 trillion in November 2025 due to the lower tax rates in the economy after the central government tax cuts, according to the official release.

As per the government data, the gross GST collections for November 2025 stood at 1,70,276 crore or over 1.7 trillion, compared to its previous level of 1.69 trillion in the same period the previous year.

The slower growth in the GST collections for the period shows the effect of the GST rate rationalisation move by the central government-led GST council. The authority slashed the rates of most items which are consumed in the country.

Here's what expert suggests

Mahesh Jaising, Partner & Indirect Tax Leader at Deloitte India, said that the GST collections in November rose to 1.70 trillion, driven by the resilience of India's economy and the positive momentum from GST 2.0 reforms.

"The path-breaking rate rationalisation has simplified compliance and improved business confidence, with pent-up demand is translating into steady consumption across sectors. On a month-on-month comparison with previous year 24 November, the revenue growth has been positive. Specifically, refunds are up 20% on a YTD basis as compared to last year November showing the implementation of refund related rationalization measures," said the tax expert.

"Looking ahead, we expect this trend to strengthen in December and into Q4 given the strong performance of GDP numbers, supported by festive spending and improved liquidity. Compared to last year, there is a growth of 7.3% (net) signaling buoyancy in the economy and this should help the Government achieve the budget estimate of 9%. With GST 2.0 driving structural clarity and digital compliance, collections could average 1.80–1.85 lakh crore in the coming months, keeping us on track for a record annual GST mop-up of over 21 lakh crore. These reforms are enabling ease of doing business and fueling the consumption-driven growth," said Jaising.
