CBI Arrests CGST Superintendent, Advocate for Bribery

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of CGST, Amroha, and a tax advocate for allegedly accepting an illegal gratification of ₹1 lakh. This amount was reportedly the first installment of a ₹4 lakh demand made to the complainant. A case was registered on June 9, 2025, based on a complaint alleging that the CGST Superintendent had issued a penalty notice to the complainant’s family company for non-filing of GST returns. Both accused are alleged to have demanded ₹4 lakh to waive this penalty. The Superintendent held additional charge of CGST, Amroha, while being posted at Gajrola. The tax advocate, representing the complainant, is accused of conspiring with the Superintendent to pressure the complainant into delivering the bribe. The CBI set up a trap and apprehended both individuals during the alleged exchange. Searches are currently underway at the accused’s premises in Amroha and Gajrola, Uttar Pradesh, as the investigation continues.

CBI apprehends Superintendent, CGST, Amroha and a Tax Advocate while accepting illegal gratification of Rs. One Lakh

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended two accused including Superintendent of CGST, Amroha and a Tax Advocate while accepting illegal gratification of Rs. 1,00,000/- (as the 1st installment of demanded undue advantage of Rs. 4 Lakh) from the complainant.

A case was registered by CBI on 09.06.2025 on the basis of a complaint against the two said accused. The Complainant controls the business affairs of his family concern private company. The allegation in the complaint was that the accused Superintendent had issued penalty notice to the complainant's family concern private company on account of non-filing of GST returns. It was alleged that both accused had demanded undue advantage of Rs. 4 lakh from the complainant for waiving off penalty on the private company.

The Accused is posted as Superintendent, CGST, Gajrola having additional charge of Superintendent, CGST, Amroha. The Tax Advocate was representing the Complainant. However, the Tax Advocate entered into conspiracy with Superintendent, CGST, Amroha and pressurized the complainant to deliver the demand of undue advantage of Rs. 4 Lakh to the accused Superintendent.

CBI laid a trap and caught both the accused red-handed.

Searches are being conducted at the premises of the accused at Amroha and Gajrola, UP.

Investigation is continuing.
