CBI Arrests CGST Inspector in Ghaziabad for Accepting ₹2 Lakh Bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a CGST Inspector from Ghaziabad on May 7, 2025, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh. The CBI had registered a case based on a complaint alleging that the Inspector initially demanded ₹11 lakh from the complainant regarding a mismatch in their firm’s GST return, threatening adverse action if the payment was not made. Following negotiations, the Inspector agreed to accept ₹2 lakh. The CBI set a trap and apprehended the accused after he accepted the bribe in his car. The Inspector attempted to flee, damaging a CBI vehicle and private vehicles during a pursuit covering approximately 2 KM before being apprehended. The bribe amount of ₹2 lakh was recovered. Searches are being conducted at the official and residential premises of the accused, and the investigation is ongoing.

CBI Apprehends an Inspector, CGST, Ghaziabad for demanding and accepting Rs.2 lakh bribe from complainant

CBI today apprehended an accused Inspector of CGST, Ghaziabad for demanding and accepting Rs two lakh bribe from complainant.

The CBI registered a case on 07.05.2025, against said Inspector on allegations that accused demanded illegal gratification of Rs. 11 lakh from complainant on account of mismatch in Input Tax Credit in the GST return of his firm. It was also alleged that accused Inspector was continuously pressurizing the complainant to pay the illegal gratification failing which, he threatened of taking adverse action against his firm. After negotiation, accused agreed to accept the illegal gratification of Rs. 2 lakh.

Accordingly, CBI laid a trap to catch the accused red-handed. The accused accepted the bribe in his car. However, when he was challenged by the CBI team present near the spot, he tried to run away and while he attempted to run away, accused severely damaged the official vehicle of the CBI team as well as some of the private vehicle from his car. After the chase of around 02 KM, accused was apprehended by the CBI team. The demanded and accepted illegal gratification of Rs. 2 lakh was also recovered.

Searches are being carried out at official and residential premises of accused.

Investigation is continuing.
